The UIBC test measures the capacity of transferrin to bind additional iron. Elevated UIBC levels are often seen in iron deficiency anemia, characterized by symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and pallor. Low UIBC levels can be indicative of conditions such as iron overload (hemochromatosis) or anemia of chronic disease. This test is essential for diagnosing and monitoring iron deficiency and overload conditions.
